Miscellaneous parts

Valve Springs:

· Helps to control the opening and closing of valve.

· The valve spring forces the valve against the valve seat so that the compressed high pressure mixture of air and fuel can be sealed inside the combustion chamber (cylinder) and also close the opened valve.

· To ensure the stable operation of the valve at high speed two variable pitch springs are used, generally spring steel, alloy spring steel (1.05%-1.80% silicon, 0.70%-1.0% manganese and 0.52-0.60% carbon).

· This prevents resonance in valve due to natural oscillation and prevents valve surging.

Rocker Arms:

· The rocker arms are mounted on the rocker arm shaft in the cylinder head and operated or driven by cams and followers to open the valves (working against valve springs).
·The valve clearance between the valve and rocker arm can be adjusted by tuning the adjustment screw.

Cam Sprockets:

· The camshaft is mounted on the cam sprocket, the number of teeth on cam sprocket are twice the number of teeth on the crankshaft sprocket hence the camshaft speed is just half of the crankshaft speed.

· The camshaft sprocket and crankshaft sprocket maintains the ratio 2:1.

Chain:

 · The chain connects the crankshaft with the camshaft, here the crankshaft roles as driver and the camshaft is driven.

· The chain tensioner maintains the proper chain tension.

Chain Tensioner:

· The chain tensioner maintain proper tension in the chain.

· If the chain tension changes due to variations in the engine speed, the valve timing or ignition timing may be disturbed, and the chain drive may create noise.

· The chain tensioner helps to avoid such problems, by maintain the proper tension in the chain.

Cylinder Block:

· It is base of the engine with cylinder forms in it cylinder block and crankcase can be a part of same casting gives advantages like good rigidity, reduce cost and less machining operations.

· The cylinder block have water passages (jacket) formed into which coolant circulates.

· The camshaft along with Bearing push rod l, tappet guide are also fitted in the block.

The alloy name AMC-SC1 ( a magnesium alloy), weight less than both cast iron and aluminum alloys and represents new possibilities in engine manufacturing.

Piston Pin:

· It’s generally called as gudgeon pin, connects piston with small end of connecting rod.

· The pin is used to made up of Ni & Cr alloy steel.

· These are case hardened on it’s outer surface.
